Wayne Roy, CCC Board Member
Vice President, Institutional Advancement, Hardin-Simmons University
Wayne M. Roy was born in Amarillo, Texas on February 29, 1940. He is the son of Major and Hazel Roy (both deceased), former members of Second Baptist Church of Amarillo. Wayne and his wife, Rita, were married on June 30, 1962 at Pierce St. Baptist Church, now Second Baptist Church of Amarillo, Texas. They have two married children and are blessed with four delightful grandchildren.
Wayne Roy is retired as Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement for Hardin-Simmons University. He currently is semi-retired and works with HSU as a Senior Development Officer.
Mr. Roy previously served as Vice President of Advertising & Marketing for the Abilene Reporter-News (Hart Hanks Communications), Abilene, Texas. His prior experience includes 10 years as General Manager of KTAB-TV, the CBS television affiliate in Abilene, Texas. In addition, he served as Vice President of Shamrock Broadcasting, Inc. (a Disney Corporation). He is a native West Texan whose career includes media management responsibilities in the West Texas cities of Amarillo, El Paso, Lubbock, and Abilene.
Mr. Roy’s community activities are varied and include:

- Campaign Chairman of the 1996 Abilene United Way Campaign
- Past Chairman, Abilene Education Foundation
- Past Chairman, Abilene Industrial Foundation
- Past Chairman of the (1992-93) Abilene Chamber of Commerce
- Past Board Chairman of the Abilene Better Business Bureau
- Past Board Chairman of Serenity House of Abilene (an alcohol and drug treatment center)
- Currently on the Board of Serenity House of Abilene
- Past Board member of Hendrick Medical Foundation (Hendrick Medical Center)
- Task Force Chairman of Abilene All American City project competing against 113 cities. (Abilene was awarded the designation as an All America City by the National Civic League in 1990.)
- Mayor appointee-Team Abilene
- Past Trustee and Vice Trustee Chairman of Hardin-Simmons University
- Past Board Chairman of Harmony Family Services (a shelter for abused and troubled youth)
- Past board member of Disability Resources-DRI (a housing and employment living center for mentally challenged yet productive citizens)
- Past member of the Prison Acquisition Committee (secured the French Robinson Unit and the John Middleton units for Abilene.)
- Past board member-Day Nursery of Abilene
- Past Task Force Chair of a community selected committee to defend Abilene State School against closure. (successfully defended and retained)
- Currently on the Board of Connecting Caring Communities
The Abilene Chamber of Commerce recognized Wayne Roy as “Abilene’s Outstanding Citizen" in 1997.
Wayne and Rita are active members of First Baptist Church of Abilene, Texas, where Wayne serves or has served as a deacon, chairman of the deacons and different committee positions in the church. He is also an adult bible teacher.
