Linda Carleton, CCC Board Member

Community Volunteer, Dean of Students, Hardin-Simmons University (Ret.)

Linda Carleton retired from Hardin-Simmons University in 2008 after 30 years of service in various roles. She supervised student teachers, was housing director, dean of students, associate vice president and, for the last four years, served as director of the Neighborhood Enhancement Center. Connecting Caring Communities grew from the pilot programs in the Neighborhood Enhancement Center. Linda has served on the board from its inception.

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Linda and her family moved to Abilene in the fall of 1977 when her husband Rob was transferred to WTU as training director. They have 2 married daughters and 5 grandchildren.

Linda currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Office of Neighborhood Services for the City of Abilene. She has served as a board member for Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Linda and Rob are active in First Baptist Church where both serve as deacons.

Connecting Caring Communities is modeled after a community renewal program in Linda’s hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana.
